Your claim will be made to Medicare after your session, and should you be eligible, the rebate will be applied to your account. Please ensure you have valid bank details added to your Medicare account to receive your rebate in a timely manner. If you wish to claim the rebate yourself, please let us know at the time of booking of your session.

You will be able to access a total of 10 Medicare rebates within a calendar year. After 6 appointments your clinician will write a progress report related to your treatment goals to your GP. Your GP will then determine if you will be eligible to obtain a re-referral from your doctor for a further 4 Medicare rebated appointments.

Most private health funds include mental health services in their policy extras, so it's important to check your policy to ensure it's included in your cover. You can often check this by visiting their website or giving them a call. Each health fund is different and you will need to contact them to ensure your coverage.

Your claims will need to be lodged by you directly to your insurer.  We will email you your invoice after each session which you can provide to your private health insurance.

Before booking your psychology session, check your private health insurance policy to ensure your psychologist meets their criteria.

No, you may only claim from either Medicare or a Private health fund for each session.  Private Heath will not contribute towards the ‘gap’ between the Medicare rebate and the consultation fees.

Some private health funds cover psychology sessions.  The benefit payable to members of private health funds varies according to the level of ancillary or extras cover. It is best to contact your provider directly to check your eligibility and for the rebate information.

If you need to cancel or postpone your appointment, please provide at least 24 hours’ notice. If less than 24 hours’ notice is provided, you will be charged a cancellation fee of $50. If no notice is provided, you will be charged $100. Contact us at the office via phone or email to cancel or reschedule appointments.

Seeing a psychologist for the first time can be a daunting experience. The first session with your psychologist is primarily an assessment session.

Your psychologist will ask you about the difficulties that have brought you into therapy and what you would like help with.  They will seek to understand what’s going on for you at the moment and what factors may be contributing to how you feel. By the end of your first appointment, your psychologist will work with you to develop a flexible plan for future sessions aligned with your goals and needs.

Therapy involves working as a team with your psychologist to make changes. It is a space for discussing and working through problems; receiving emotional support and guidance, for learning about psychological difficulties and how to make changes. Therapy also requires consistent regular appointments in order for it to be effective.

Therapy looks different depending on the goals for therapy. Some common features of psychological intervention include learning ways to manage difficult emotions, making changes to things which might be having an impact on how we feel, examining and modifying unhelpful beliefs,  examining and modifying unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour.
